Dark Invasion: Mixed Reality turns your actual apartment into a survival horror game. There are no authored levels: it scans your rooms, and the dead come into those. They crawl out from behind your furniture, climb over your windowsill, creep along your ceiling and punch through your walls.
Your apartment is the level. They hide in the next room, flank through doorways, storm in from the street and kick out window sashes to get inside. Walls and ceilings will not save you: they break through and walk in, or drop on you from above. Your bullets punch through walls as well.
Darkness and one flashlight. The light on your gun is your protection and your weakness at once: to see something, you have to point at it. While you light up one room, they are already coming from another.
Honest combat. Shoot the limbs off. An arm tears away in one piece; take a leg and the zombie drops and crawls at you for good, because it will never stand up again. A precise headshot ends it. You can punch the zombies back — that knocks them away and buys you the time to reload.
Search, do not respawn. Magazines drop from the dead. You have to find them in the dark, pick them up and seat them by hand. A loaded magazine glows; an empty one is trash.
An alien hunts you from outside. A three-metre creature circles the building, looks in through your windows, throws fireballs through the glass and breaks through the outer wall. Duck and break its line of fire — there is no other way.
No breather between waves — there are jobs to do.
Restore the power: the fuses. The panel is dead and the fuses are scattered across dark rooms. Find them, carry them on your belt and seat them one by one, with your back to the darkness they are already coming out of.
Shut off the water: the valve. A pipe has burst and the apartment is flooding with filthy water. Knee-deep already hurts. Over your head hurts twice as much. And the valve is, of course, in the farthest room — run the length of the apartment while the water rises.
You are not alone. Karen shows up, warns you and vanishes. Steve steps in to tell you what happened, and mid-sentence a zombie drops off the ceiling.
Run results. Kills, accuracy, headshots and time. Accuracy scales the whole score, so spraying can never beat precise play.
Requires Meta Quest 3 or Quest 3S: passthrough and room scanning. Play standing, in a scanned space; the more rooms you scan, the better it gets.
